Procedure for closing RfAs

[edit]

The procedure for closing RfAs does not seem to be documented. In particular, I notice that Commons:Administrators/Requests/Alachuckthebuck has not been protected. I vaguely remember that last time I brought this up with the closing bureaucrat, there was some confusion about whether an unsuccessful RfA should be protected; I cannot find that discussion now. ✓ Done I've protected the closed RfA since the last few closed RfAs have been protected by User:CptViraj. But this can be discussed if there isn't clarity on the policy. Abzeronow (talk) 00:13, 4 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
After my comment above, I realized I should have checked Commons:Protection policy. It says (emphasis added):
[Protection] is usually only used to combat vandalism and edit wars and the protection is usually temporary. Some exceptions include heavily used templates and archived user right request pages.
But it also says:
Fully protected pages should be tagged with the appropriate protection template to inform others and to auto-categorize the page under Category:Protected.
I advertised this discussion at Commons talk:Protection policy#Protection of RfAs (including unsuccessful ones). Brianjd (talk) 00:53, 4 April 2025 (UTC)Reply
