However 4.2.5 II. c. 3: "In the case of contributions to periodicals, where the year date does not accompany the rest of the notice, the periodical issue date ordinarily will not be considered part of the notice, whether it appears on the same page or not."

Related: It look like Marvel Tales #142 was never registered for copyright at all. This issue did not have a year in the copyright notice but it is cover dated Jan 1956. It was probably published in 1955 and year only 1 year late is not supposed to be defective (4.2.4 IV. a. 2.). My only guess maybe Marvel thought it was defective and did not bother registering it or the Copyright Office thought Marvel was doing it on purpose
