Basile thank you, I appreciate your analysis much. For me is much more important than just statements where someone tells to trust me, the fact that you also agree in contentual matter, especially the Krok6kola case where that was in parts clear vandalism and in all the following discussions virtually no one (!) was interested to hear about the categorization, all discussion was on whether I was too unfriendly or not... But if the Commons community is not interested in own rules on how to build up a well-functioning media repository and not even in applying Common sense, then it's definitely very sick!!

I'm not always agreeing with you and in the past you behaved not always commendable, likewise perhaps me towards you, but I definitely appreciate the recent statement, which must have been not quite easy to write due to many difflinks etc.. Yes, A.Savin. My opinion is that on the balance, the volume of constructive actions on your part is greater than the annoying deviations. I also have the distinct impression that a resentful user (for the wrong reason) has compiled a bunch of old diffs to build a big angry file, and this approach is from my point of view sterile. You could file something in court (though you'd be required to register for copyright first), but given you are a Frenchman living in Laos it'd probably be rather complicated.

A strongly worded email will likely work, you could look into whether a DMCA is still valid internationally.

Yes, JayCubby, indeed. The first image I searched for was found on Adobe Stock. The problem is that chasing these thieves is likely to be as time-consuming as it is depressing... SS's new takedown form is here. I would honestly speak to a lawyer to see about extracting money from Shutterstock. In your position, I might register the copyright of the infringed-upon photos (for about $50 each) with the USCO and then file a claim in the US Copyright Small Claims Court without lawyers.

The problem with this form is that they ask too many questions, and as the copyright owner you have to accept all the legal conditions this company requests, although it is a company that rips you off. Talk to a lawyer, maybe, but for 3 images = 3x 50 USD = 150 USD maximum, after maybe 1 year, and ten times more to pay to the lawyer, in advance. Everything in English, not my mother tongue, in the USA, not my country, and through a time-consuming procedure. This big company has its own layering officers inside, and I'm sure they can manage to get something like "well, you gave your work for free on Commons", then our users just thought it was free to re-use with their own names". Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and top 5% of most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on 27 September 2025, 23:59:59 UTC.
