Whippet dog coat
A whippet dog coat is a must for cold climate homes. Sleek and trim means speed. And while your whippet may challenge the wind, the wind will be more than a match for your pet during cold weather. There is nothing more heart-rending than seeing a shivering whippet. They are sensitive, delicate creatures and you would wish them only to shiver in anticipation, not with cold, wouldn't you?
Here are a few things you might wish to consider when making or buying a whippet dog coat. The list is provided in order of importance, but if you are making the coat yourself, it might please you to include all of these suggestions.
You will want to measure correctly for your whippet dog coat. The best rule is to run a tape measure from the base of your dog's neck (right at the collar) to the root of the tail, right along the spine. If you are making this coat, you may wish an inch more if you plan to add a hood, so that you have some extra material with which to work.

On the inside, you will wish to line the whippet dog coat with a good quality acrylic fleece. This should be machine washable!. This will make sure that the cooler weather will be an enjoyable experience. Don't forget to rotate coats for your whippet. The usual weather-resistant coat will get moist from usage, especially if your pet has done a good bit of exercise.
There are several additional features that make for a snug fit in a good whippet dog coat: a slipover front with a detachable hood for those really cold times; a belly strap that is adjustable for a nice snug fit about the waist; and, an edging made of reflective tape so your pet can be seen at night by automobile lights.
